For you bowlers

That's "bowling" not "balling."

On a lighter note, I went bowling today. I ended my last game with 9 strikes. Nine in a row. And not cheapies. All in the pocket with the pins flying.

Unfortunately, my 1st 3 frames were open, spare, open (split).

The trouble with bowling strikes is you don't get the full use of the lane and it results in less exercise since you only get to throw the ball once per frame until the end. Instead of throwing a possible 21 balls you only get to throw 12 balls.

Why am I telling you this? An old joke will explain.

A 90-year-old Jewish man went to confession.

"Father, I fucked a 20-year-old girl," the Jewish man said.

The priest gasped. "Why are you telling me this? You're not even Catholic."

"I'm telling everyone I can!"

Is the hat trick making a bowler (the hat) look cool again?

@Vincent Berg

Not sure how much you know about cricket, CW, but a hat trick is where the bowler gets 3 wickets with 3 consecutive balls. In the very early days doing so earned them a club hat with the name date and details on it, thus the name. Since those hats cost a bit back then, it was a good freebie.

Since this is a Canadian site, it would be remiss not to point out that a hat trick is also 3 goals in hockey.

I don't follow hockey, so I didn't know that. However, it shows those hockey plays will steal anything not welded in place.

IIRC Australia is a pretty strong hockey nation. ;)

(Just checked - their men are top of the world rankings.)

NSW is big in Rugby League and Rugby Union, but I don't follow them, either. Nor do I follow grass hockey or ice hockey, or tennis. There's a lot of sports I don't follow at all.

Association Football (known as soccer in some parts of the world) also uses the term "hat trick" when a player scores three goals in a game.

Dictionary.com mentions that 'hat trick' is an expression used in cricket, ice hockey, and soccer.

They also say it's used in baseball, when a player has a 1-, 2-, and 3-base hit, and a home run in the same game. They've got that totally wrong, haven't they? Isn't the term for that 'batting through the cycle' or something similar?

Yes

3 strikouts in a game is a hat trick โ€” albeit a negative term
