How Long Does It Take For Posted Stories To Appear

Vincent Berg ๐Ÿšซ

A strange thing has been happening for several weeks now. I check, right around 8 p.m., to see if the next day's story has posted, and it clears the posting queue, but doesn't appear on the 'updated stories list'. That's fine, I understand update delays. But the odd thing is, if I go to my story stats details page, it shows 50+ readers have already downloaded the chapter. which still isn't visible to readers yet.

How the heck does this happen? Is this due to outdated cookies or something? If so, is there some way to fix it other than flushing ALL of my existing cookies?

It's not a big issue, but it has my head spinning wondering what missing mechanisms are involved.

My guess would be readers who've bookmarked your story receiving emails.

Ahh, that explains it. I never even knew that was an option (I guess I'd skimmed over it every time I examined the basic settings).

Thanks for the quick answer.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Actually, it was a guess and I may have got it wrong.

I had looked up the Help information on tags earlier today and glanced at something that seemed to be different ways of being notified. When I went back to look for that I couldn't find it.

The updates page is cached for 10 minutes.

So how do readers know a new chapter is available? Their bookmarks?

Bookmarks yes. Also, there are five versions of the Updates page, each cached separately. Premier, Premier filtered, Free, Free filtered (and a non-cached live version for premier members with category exclusions). Sometime one of those page's cache would expires as new stories are posted. So when Crumbly checks, he gets the unfiltered premier version. It could happen that this particular version was cached right before the new chapters were processed, while the filtered free version expired right after the chapters were posted.

So while he might have to wait for 5 or 10 minutes to see the updates, others may have seen them already.

Yeah, that's a better explanation. Thanks for the definitive answer.
