Fiction Writing & Style Guide

Ernest Bywater ๐Ÿšซ

We've had many discussions on style guide and grammar issues for fiction writing. In the last thread on this I mentioned I'd started such a document but hadn't finished. Some others were also doing similar work. We had email discussions about working together, but found we had different aims, so we went our own ways. I said I'd announce when I finished it and had it publisher ready - well it is. My aim with the grammar is to cover where you should vary from what the academic and business style guides say.

I've now finished my style guide and it's available at:

www.lulu.com/shop/ernest-bywater/fiction-writing-style-guide/ebook/product-23095260.html

I have made it available through Amazon, Nook, Kobo, Apple, B&N, and Lulu as a free e-pub. It will take the other publishers some time to suck it from Lulu and make it available there. It does include my previous writing guides, too

I do not insist you have to do things the way i set, but have set out what I see as the best way of doing things, and often say why.

First thing I noticed was the typo in the 2nd line of the story description ("It has a primary focus non the writing of fiction stories."). Not exactly the best selling aid for a book about writing.

I was just messing with you ... pointing out something trivial like this is what my dictionary says about that.
I am trying to help you prepare for types of arseholes who'll start coming out of the wordwork at you soon, and their dogs, and the fleas on the arseholes of their dogs ...

I know, which is why I was stirring in return. Just like CW was letting me know about the typo in a funny way

I sincerely thank you for your effort to produce this guide.
I have wasted much time over the last year looking for works on similar topics written in a way that can be understood by someone who has not studied writing at university level.

I am sure many will find points they disagree with.
I urge them all to acknowledge this guide CANNOT be anything more that one person's opinions on what is most likely to cause the least offense to the lowest number.
Please be respectful towards the author in any communications on the grounds he has done his best in attempting a much needed task which is inherently impossible.
