Custom cover art in competitions / contests

DonaldBelle
Updated:

Hi everyone

Apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere and I've missed it, but is it possible to upload custom cover art for a competition story / contest entry? I've just submitted my entry for the Valentine's contest, and I'd like to put up some cover art to go with it.

No worries if not, just unsure if I'm being daft and missing something obvious.

Thanks

D

No, you're not missing anything. Contest stories can't have custom covers until the contest is over and the winners are announced.

Given that the cover contains the name of the author, I don't think that restriction is going to be lifted any time soon.

(Though an author could be allowed to upload a cover, with the system set up to us3 the generic cover whilst voting is enabled. Probably more trouble than it's worth, except that it saves the author having to go back later to upload the cover.)

I didn't realise contests were anonymous - my fault for speed reading the T&Cs. Makes perfect sense though!

More than anonymous. See Rule 13:

13. Voting will be blind. So, author names will be hidden on the site when voting is open. In order to keep this effective, authors are barred from giving any clues to their identities and hints about which story is theirs. Any author that breaks this rule by revealing which story is theirs, will be disqualified from the contest.

The bolding is mine to point out a particular part of the rule that an author can unintentionally do.

Thanks - Duly noted, and I shall say no more about it then, just in case.

Story? What story? I know nothing...

I have correctly identified two authors in the past, both ones that I follow (stalking!) and know well enough to recognise their style. One of them was Stultus and I won't name the other one.
