Change the Author using Libra Office

Updated:

I have been using Libra Office for around 7 years. Mu computer has been failing for more than a year. I was given a six-year-old computer from a friend. He erased all of the content of all the folders.

I installed Libra Office, and transferred all of the documents I have backed up from my computer.

It seems neither of us erased the Name/Nym of the computer.

I am unable to change the name on the documents in LO. That is not a problem downloading chapters onto SoL. However, I don't have "permission" to edit the documants.

I went to the homepage for LO, but I haven't found a Guide of How to Change the Name of the Author of a particular Document.

I have had to write a completely "new" document to "edit" each chapter.

I think there must be a way to change/modify the Author of a Document, or "Grant" Editorial permissions.

Mostly, I would like to change the "Author" on this computer, and the version of Libra Office on my "new" laptop.

In the past there have been others with more experience with LO (Libra Office) and computers in general.

I appreciate advice to fix these issues.

Tomorrow I am supposed to get my new (prescription) glasses from the VA (Veterans Administration); I have noticed considerably more errors in my recent story A Thoughtful Christmas Gift. I had thought I would have all of the chapters uploaded, edited, and reposted. I wrote them on my old computer before Christmas. Then got my "new" computer "set up" and only when I started editing did I discover this issue. I have other stories that need editing, and I don't want to have to transcribe them all over again. Advice and/or assistance appreciated.

Presuming you can read all of the files, you could just open them, use 'Save As' to make a copy to a new file name (just add _new to the file before the .xxx file extension, if you're configured to see that), and the new file should be owned by your new user ID. Depending on your OS, there are also some superuser commands that you could use to change the file permissions and/or ownership, either in the GUI file tree, or via the command line.

It is my recollection, from 6 or 7 years ago, that there IS a way to Change the "Author" not just on new works, but also on older documents.

Back around c.2014 I went back to college on the GI Bill, among the courses I took were several writing classes. They required all papers be submitted using Microsoft Office365. I obtained a "Lifetime" version of the program. c.2018 Microsoft changed the terms of the licensing, and was requiring me to Pay to recover all of the documents I had written, including stories for SoL and personal notes.

Based upon advice, I downloaded Libra Office, and was able to "recover" all of my Documents into the Libra Office format. As I recall, I switched ALL of those documents with myself as the author.

Due to time, and multiple TBI, I don't recall how I did that. I went to the website for Libra Office, and such procedure is not in the FAQ. I am hoping someone in our Forums might assist me.

I am making a mess trying to send copies to a person who has volunteered to Proofread for me. Even more so to Edit and repost.

I switched computers before Christmas, AND backed up ALL of my Documents too. So, I have everything; but much of it is Read Only.

There is a solution, but I cannot currently recall it.

Thanks for your suggestion, I hope to find a better solution, as I am basically doing as you suggested, but it is time consuming doing so for each iteration.

Cheers!

You can update your user data under tools-options-user data.

Then on an older document
file-properties
Make sure Apply user data is checked.
Click the reset properties button.

I'm completely out of my depth here but have you tried right clicking on the file name then selecting 'properties'?
