I am shamelessly bragging on my granddaughter, who is seven going on eight, and is in second grade. She wrote a story in graphic novel form, multiple panels, and used dramatic irony correctly in showing that the combatants did not know the real reason for their war.
I do not recall much about my own second grade, but I'm pretty sure we did not discuss any narrative techniques at all.

She does, but realistically, any child who reads is likely to grasp the concept, even when they don't recognize the term. It's common enough, even in children's stories, and it appears quite often in the children's bible classes, and with an author grandfather, she likely picked the term up from Bondi himself, even if he didn't notice her overhearing the discussion.
And face it, some kids are just brighter than other kids, regardless of age. And all of those are things to be proud of. Luckily, for her, it isn't hard to remember that far back. ;)

I can't claim the credit. My granddaughter heard the term in her second-grade classroom from the teacher. When she was working on the story at home, she asked her mother, "Ms. [x] told us what the name was, for when the person reading the story knows something the characters don't, but I don't remember what it is." Her mother supplied the answer.

There is no shame in bragging about ones descendants, especially granddaughters.
I have one the same age and I would be proud if the only thing the world remembers me by is that I happened to be her ancestor.

Unfortunately, the flip side is that nothing makes you feel older than watching your kids getting older (think early teens to their thirties). Grandbabies are a blessing, because when you're done, you get to go home and recoup.
Two weeks ago, I found the best therapy for anything that ails you. I sat and held my infant great granddaughter for two and a half hours. All the pains from growing old vanished; there were no problems with my car that couldn't be solved; the ongoing feud between my son and me lost its importance. She held my little finger in a death grip, cooing and gurgling like infants do. And my world was the best possible place to be.

My great grandsons are older than that, 7 and 5 1/2, so no more squeezing my finger. I do get a hug sometimes, especially from the younger one.

Just after our older girl's birth, the nurse told us, "doctors never learn this, but here's how you put a shirt on a newborn," and proceeded to stick her finger through the sleeve where our newborn daughter grabbed it and let her hand and arm be pulled through.

When my younger brother was young (pre-kindergarten) He was going through Dr Seuss books with one of his friends. The friends mother was absolutely shocked and asked how long he had been reading. My mother's reply, "He's not reading, he has them memorized and knows exactly when to turn the pages."
