Text Message Formatting

H. Malcom Walker ๐Ÿšซ

In one of my earlier stories on SOL, Brittney's Bath, I submitted an image of a text message exchange I created on a generator on some website. When it was published here, the editor turned it into alternating bubbles of text that were either green or blue.

It was actually a superior format, so my question is how can I request that certain text be displayed that way when I submit a story?

Look at https://storiesonline.net/doc/Text_Formatting_Information_Guide#tags and scroll down until you find the section for "Messaging bubbles"

Perfect! Thanks.

Will the tags for message bubbles work with the MS Word files I normally submit with?

Never used them but, sure, why not? To Word, the tags are simply characters so it passes them through. Then when the SOL Wizard scans for tags, it finds them and acts accordingly.

Documentation indicates yes:

Plain text formatting and SOL tags are respected in all formats. For example if you submit a .docx file containing *some text* (surrounded with asterisks), it will come out bold on the site. If you use any of the formatting tags described in the SOL tags sections they will also apply.

Personally, I've always used 'indented text', rather than SOL's bubbled text. It just looks better, as it's clearer it's not a normal dialogue.

The SOL default behavior, is to ignore all text tags and treat the text of text. So, rather than tagging anything, you just need to replace ANY section breaks with an html < hr > command (a single horizontal line), and it won't have any problems with it, as I've been doing that consistently for the last fifteen to twenty years.

And of course, adding tags can also be done separately, or you can specify the tags to be set, when submitting it, if you're encountering any troubles, when you submit the text.

You can use the format previewer to tag the text.
