Is there a character limit on comments?
If we assume UI consistency, I do not see a limit on comments as to number of characters. I successfully pasted in 3000+ characters and the system didn't truncate it (as it does for story descriptions, for example).

Ouch! I can see that being abused if it becomes too widely known :-(

True, though a saving grace is that authors can delete comments, and block the commenter if there are repeast offenses.
