Can anyone explain Discord to me? I just don't get it. I've got an account and am in a few discords, but in general I find getting anything out of them extremely frustrating. And, yet, they seem to be a big thing. What am I missing?

Okay. Discord is a communication 'app'. Which can be run as an actual app or as a web page in liu of that.
There are 2 main sections involved:
Boards or messaging that can be text and or pictures and videos, just like a message board
Rooms, this is where voice chat occours. I'm not sure if you can do this one as a web page but it is more 'prevelant' in some communities that have more frequent simultaeonous access.
Notes: some people try to disseminate malware via discord, disguised as a free or demo app. all this is, is a script that will steal your personal info / credentials from web browsers etc.
Some Discord 'servers' are very busy, some are very quiet. It's just like everywhere else in that regards.
If you're into privacy perhaps have 2 computers or one host and one+ virtual machines to keep separate Discord systems on each environment.
Not much more to say other than welcome to the community :D
Sometimes the text just sends to be running entries and on others it's by topics. I get topics. But the rubbing entries seem hard to get much from. Is there a trick to those?
If you use WhatsApp or similar programs, discord is the same but without phone numbers. You have chat groups(servers), you can message the whole group or individuals, you can communicate over voice with groups or individuals.
The only real difference is that in discord you can have massive community servers with thousands is participants. See them as a forum like this, but with less topics and usually more people posting.
