I am really considering using the pdf format to post to SOL and Bookapy.
Pros and cons ???
Is there a better way, other than odt, that will post as I wrote it without unwanted and unexpected formatting changes?

Please don't do that. PDF is fixed-format and can't be easily reflowed to accommodate different resolutions and font sizes.

I posted my stories to Bookapy in all three formats to give the buyers their choice. I post to FineStories by sending the mods the story files in HTML and let the site handle the conversions (ZIP and EPUB are the only download choices for readers now).
If I had to pick just one for Bookapy, it would be EPUB.

I suggest you stop considering. You simply can't.
We never accepted PDF files for storiesonline/FS/SFS. The engine does NOT support them.
We also dropped support for PDF files at Bookapy due to low interest. Less than 1% of all downloads were PDF downloads and a couple of buyers told me that they downloaded those for archival purposes more than actually reading purposes. Bookapy now asks you for an EPUB file along with the cover and that's all.
