In reading a story, I occasionally run across a misspelled or misused word. Is it possible to correct my copy of the pub? If so what is the best approach? None of these have DRM issues.
Thanks

First of all, you a talking about an eBook, yes?
By using the word pub I assume it's in EPUB format, not Kindle or any other.
Without DRM it's easy: get Calibre (free) and use Calibre's eBook editor program that comes with Calibre. I don't use Calibre's main program other than start it about every few months to get informed there is an update available and start downloading. Then I close Calibre, install the update
and can use the updated editor (closed during update, I once had the editor open during update and got weird behavior).
Start here.

Yes they are in EPUB format. Thanks for the advice. Now all i need to do is remember to mark the errors. ;-)

How are you reading the eBooks?
If you are reading at your computer using a reader app, then just open the new eBook in Calibre's editor and you get left the file browser, in the middle the edit window with the HTML-code, and on the right the preview window.
The preview let you read the eBook like an eBook reader.
Whenever you find an error, you click on it, this synchronizes the HTML text and you can correct there the error. Then save the change and continue reading.
Before starting this, make a backup copy of the eBook file,
because Calibre simply overwrites the opened file!

Typically, correcting someone's grammar or pronunciation in a pub ends up in your getting punched!
