Change in the Forum: Threaded topic view

Lazeez Jiddan (Webmaster)

I've implemented a threaded topic view for viewing the conversations instead of the old flat chronologically sorted view. Threaded is the default view from now on.

Each reply will now be below the post it's replying to.

When viewing an old previously visited topic, the display should jump to the first un-viewed post.

If you prefer the previous flat view, at the top of each thread there is a link for 'Flat View', it will switch you to the old view. In the flat view, the link is titled 'Threaded View' and will switch you to the new view.

I just noticed that, and it can be good or bad. I have used both styles in other places, and noticed that right away just now when I updated a post.

But nice we can choose the older system if we wish.

Looks like it's working to me.

I changed to "flat view" on this thread. When I went to other threads, it was changed there too. So we don't have to go to each thread. I hope that's true.

@Switch Blayde

Yes, every click switches the view for the whole forum.

For longer, highly active threads, it might be nice to have something to jump to the next un-viewed post on the thread.

This is true. It's kinda jarring to jump from recent post to weeks-old post.

Have you changed the font as well? It looks smaller to me.

No, I did not touch font sizes.

That's old age. Where are those reading glasses anyway?

Now that you mention it...

Classic theme here, back to Flat view.
The text does look slightly smaller to me as well.

I think the wasted space on the edges has been reduced. Unfortunately, it still only uses about two thirds of the screen...

There's an interesting bug.

In flat view, I can't see any of bk69's posts in this topic. But in threaded view I can see them.

After my previous post, bk69's posts were visible in flat view too.

ETA then when I switched to threaded view, my latest two posts disappeared. HTH.

The forum uses caching. Generating the display is processor and database access intensive. So the pages are cached for 5 minutes.

It appears the switch to Flat view is temporary and goes away on logout. On new login, back to Threaded view. Please can switch to Flat view be ongoing till I personally switch to Threaded view ?
