Merry Christmas Lazeez and everyone else who enjoys the sites.
Actually it takes too many to count in order to keep it so successful. Hopefully that will continue indefinitely.
Merry Christmas, everyone.
I spent Christmas Eve with my son. His wife is Catholic (she was also baptized Mormon, but that's another story).
Anyway, have you wondered how Jews spend Christmas Day when almost everything is closed? We go to the movies and afterwards a Chinese restaurant.

I never would have pegged you as Jewish. Not that it's ever obvious, but often in stories the family dynamics will reveal perspectives (think of all the Jewish movies and TV shows over the years).
Christmas day is a big Jewish event in Manhattan. Back when I was living alone, my father would visit me over Christmas and we'd spend Christmas Eve/Christmas Day visiting Jazz clubs. But many Jews from the surround states flock to the city to take advantage of the empty theaters, plays, restaurants and other entertainment venues. The Theater district in particular really caters to them, as it helps their bottom lines.
On Friday after sunset, around 5pm in December, observant Jews go to Synagogue for Sabbath observance. Not supposed to do work that day. I read where they paid non-Jewish servants to turn off and on the lights.

I'm not a practicing Jew. I'm an atheist. But I remember the teachings, though, from my childhood.
You would leave a light on before sunset on the Sabbath and not turn it off until the Sabbath was over. I never heard of paying people to turn them on and off. My guess is that was one of those stereotypes that all Jews were rich (having servants). Of course that was the Orthodox Jews only who wouldn't turn a light on. And you can't drive either, but it was usually too far to walk to the synagogue so everyone drove (except the Orthodox Jews who lived near the synagogue).
Interesting conversation for Christmas. Although I still get pissed when the movie Ben Hur, a story about a Jewish family persecuted by the Romans, is a story about Christ.

What gets me is the number of Pretend Christians who hate or dislike members of the Hebrew faith, after all, the man known as Jesus Christ was a Jew, he starts his ministry as a Teacher in the Hebrew faith and at the end of it is recognised as a Rabbi; which shows he really knew the faith and been tested and recognised as such. Thus you have these people who hate Jews and pretend to hold the greatest Jewish success as a venerable person.
Its difficult for anyone who can read the New Testament to be a Christian. Turn the other cheek gets difficult. Hard for a rich man to pass through the eye of a needle goes against most modern culture. Early Christians were Communists, long before Karl Marx. Go and sin no more is challenging. Some religions offer the sacrament of confession to handle the sinning part that seems unavoidable if you live in the world. There are occasional saints like Mother Theresa, but I read somewhere she had doubts, too. Its much easier to be a Pretend Christian, at church an hour or so a week, and try to make a living the other 167 hours.
There is a song in South Pacific, the musical, about having to be carefully taught as a child to hate the people your parents and friends hate. It seems to happen. If supporters of one sports team can hate people that root for other teams, how hard can it be to hate members of other religions, or branches of the same one. Different is evil, don't you know.
Go and sin no more is challenging.
Actually, if you limit your definition of sin as to what is actually listed as a sin in the Bible and doing what Jesus says you should do, then not sinning is a darn sight easier than most people realise. The majority of what the Holy Catholic Church promoted as sins aren't listed as such by God or Jesus. Mind you, the Holy Catholic Church preaches celibacy when the one single instruction God told groups of people on repeated occasions was to go out there and breed. I could do a major essay on the variations between major church doctrine and Bible teachings, but neither of us has the time.
I will strongly recommend Roman Catholics read 1 Timothy chapter 3
Happy Holidays everyone! Especially to that small but so vital minority of readers who vote and comment.
Christianity, Judaism and Islam are the three Abrahamic religions aren't they. Their followers are like squabbling siblings really :)

Ayep, just as bad as Roman Catholics and Presbyterians.
