Some more 'cents' on AI

The New York Times reported that the publisher for the author who got their prize nomination rescinded for using AI has broken ties with that author!

I said it before and I'll say it again - uncredited use of creative content that is not yours is Plagiarism; it doesn't matter if it's content from an AI, a human, or a 'barrel of monkeys' - it is still plagiarism.

I am not arguing against using AI; I am saying, if you are going to use AI, use it responsibly and sensibly.

The main problem for content generative AI is that it sees the trees in detail but does not perceive the forest.

These AIs have been trained on the finished product - which, if you really think about it, is nothing more than an assemblage of scenes. There has been no learning of the process to assemble those scenes, just the (statistical) learning of what 'good' scenes are. This results in the 'replication' of 'good' scenes without either the proper or, in some cases, any of the necessary connectivity element needed for connecting to other scenes and/or overall continuity. Even within a scene, an AI may fail to apply causality to insure logical consistency because it is so focused on replicating static results.

So... until they start training content generative AIs in composition & editing - you, the author, will have to go through every scene to work through the mis-formed, malformed, and/or non-formed connectivity elements. On top of that, you cannot forget that the 'style' elements also need to be coordinated.

Again, I am not saying to not use AI - just recognize what you are getting when you do use it and how to use it within your work. What I am saying is - whatever you vision is as a content creator, feel free to use whatever tool necessary to help that vision to come to fruition; just know & understand the strengths & weaknesses of the tools that you use. And most importantly, never forget the fundamentals of your craft.

Will AI content ever be award winning? Of course it will eventually be award winning. I guarantee you - the first author that can compose a monumental work of AI snippets that is equivalent in quality to "Romeo and Juliet", "Gone with the Wind", "The Great Gatsby", etc. will win a major literary award; even if they have to create a whole new category to do so.
