Poverty Hill Back story

Posted at Updated:

A bit of information on the story Poverty Hill.

Poverty Hill is a fictitious location; a product of my imagination. Hahn's Peak, Steamboat Springs and others are real.

The story takes place in North, Central Colorado, very close to the Wyoming Boarder. If you find Steamboat Springs on a map, about 35 miles due North you will find Hahn's Peak; the town and the mountain for which it is named. Most other locations in this story are true, but I will leave it to the readers imagination to tell which is which.

This area in Colorado was for a short period of time a gold producing site. It was like many such sites in Colorado, small, never significant and short lived. Interesting to note is that most of those who worked the mines where recent Welsh immigrants. The vernacular voice for Amos in the story is an approximation of those original miners. Some of you probably dislike the use of vernacular because it grates on your use of English, but I felt that it was necessary.

Most of the descriptions in the story of the landscape are as real as my memory at age 60 (when I wrote the story) allows. The story was originally written in late 2005 and won the Golden Clitorides Award for Best Erotic Story by a New Author 2006.

I hope to post a chapter a day, but that depends on how my joints deal with the arthritis in my hands.

I have several other stories to post and will be doing so one at a time. Hopefully the next one will be a story I and another author on this site (Grampy) wrote together. He gave me permission a while back to do what I wish with it, but I want to try and contact him again to make sure he is amenable.

Finally, I had two very good editors that greatly increased the readably of the story. I would be remiss if I didn't recognize ByteMangler and WexWiz.
