I used to think it was the plot that mattered; but I've just been reading some short stories by Neil Gaiman. I came to one that was just not my kind of thing, but I had to keep reading. Why? Because it was so well written, it dragged me through to the end of a very unsavoury story because the description, the style, the structure all just made me keep reading. If I could write like that, I'd die happy. But I can't, so I'll keep trying.
Gaiman is so imaginative and his stories differ so widely. Quite brilliant.
