This was a story idea that I sketched out some years ago – a tongue-in-cheek parody of the Melbourne ‘Midsumma’ Festival and the ‘Mardi Gras’ in Sydney. Inspired to a certain extend by photographs of Policewomen from both Victoria and New South Wales, pictured On Parade or ‘flirting’ with lesbians and transsexuals (or so many of the pictures seemed to suggest) The contrast between the tight short-sleeved policewomen’s uniform shirts and the wide variety of lingerie and other clothing, offering quite the scenario for my stories. Unable to sleep due to the effect of chemo earlier this week, I put together ‘Mardi Gras’ Policewomen all too quickly, and it is really just an idea…? I have problems coming up with names, so many might recognise the policewomen from Australian television series like ‘Blue Heelers’ 1995-2004, ‘Cop Shop’ 1977-1984, ‘Division 4’ 1969-1975 and ‘Home And a Away’ 1988 to present. With the prejudice, discrimination and harassment long faced by lesbians, I thought it intriguing to investigate what would happen if they had a chance at a bit of retribution. Particularly if it was sanctioned by politicians etc. The inclusion of the half-caste Aboriginal hermaphrodite was acknowledgment of the impact that shemales, transsexuals, transvestites and hermaphrodites, have had on society in recent years.
