I'll start posting a new work today. "Lise" is a novel-length science-fiction story that I wrote a dozen years ago. It's a departure from what I've been posting as it is not a romance story nor is it erotica. If it were a movie it would draw an "R" rating. The story is set in a universe of colony planets seeded by an Earth mission long ago.
"Lise" is set on planet Varada, upon which the inhabitants must rely on slavery to harvest their staple crop, a native grain called pomma that requires intensive manual labor. When the slave class revolted demanding emancipation, the planet's leadership embarked on a different solution -- the creation of a new species of humanoid they named Novo Homonids, or Novonids. These beings, genetically engineered from human genes, have green skin to derive nourishment from the intense Varadan sun. They were bred to be field workers. As their numbers increased, Novonids began to be used for menial or dangerous tasks off the farms.
The problem was, their creators built them too well. Subjugated and considered sub-human Novonids have mental capacity equal to their masters. As their numbers swelled in the cities they began to crave equality.
"Lise" is the coming-of-age story of a teen-aged Novonid girl who finds herself swept into an uprising of urban Novonids as they begin to press demands for autonomy and equality.
