Chapter 42 has been downloaded (as of this writing) 9,934 times since it was posted last Saturday morning. During that time, I was running an unannounced contest that was going to get you all a bonus chapter. All someone had to do was send me an email or post a comment about the homage that I had specifically put in here, and boom, you'd ALL get a reward.
I'll grant you that two comments were made that I sometimes go obscure with references. But that's for the MAIN mystery - who's the money man? Not the little mystery. (Y'all are going to facepalm when you realize this one.)
Staring in Chapter 27, of Book One, I've been making references. 'Hess reached into his jacket and pulled a dollar bill out, handing it to Hunt.', 'Hess pulled out another dollar, handing it to Hunt.', 'I pulled out my wallet and gave him a dollar.' That's continued in other chapters since then. In Chapter 40, 'Oh, we just all put a dollar in, is all', 'Leon pulled out a dollar, paying her.', and 'Leon gave Bud a dollar for the victory'.
Is that enough set-up?
Randy and Martin Knight ... two bums on the street that didn't used to be bums ... and dollar bets.
If I really have to say Randolph and Mortimer Duke at this point, you should be shaking your heads in shame. The first movie even FITS the time frame, since it came out in 1983. ('Trading Places', starring Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murray, and then their cameo in 'Coming to America', from 1988.)
