Does anyone have any contact with rey del sexo, former admin of asstr.org?
I recently complained on my blog about the Wayback Machine removing asstr.org from their index. Several readers responded including dennyw, a former mod of ASSM. I took the opportunity to ask him what happened. Why did the site die? Was it money, burn-out, government pressure, a combination of all three or something else? denny's response:
"The software it ran on needed to be updated thoroughly. One of the two guys who ran it wanted to do area-by-area; the other wanted to do a total rework and only introduce 'new' in one fell swoop. Neither would budge. That's a fairly accurate description."
As often happens, when there is a fundamental disagreement between parties, is nothing. Rey and M, the other admin, went on with their private lives. The site deteriorated and finally stopped functioning.
The data are intact? Yes. Is the site revivable? No reason why it couldn't be.
Anyway, I learned that the servers are somewhere on the west coast or in the possession of Rey or M on the east coast. denny is not sure. He said he would ask but lost contact with rey in the last couple of years. Never did have contact with M. Neither would have the time or desire to tackle a rebuild, but someone with the necessary tech experience might have the time or desire. Donations to fund the work might make it possible, but I am getting ahead of myself. But just imagine asstr rising from the dead. A site that inspired others, including Lazeez, to start their own sites. I hope I'm not violating TOS posting this here. It's the only place I could think of. Thoughts? Leads?
This URL has been excluded from the Wayback Machine.
I received the above message when I tried to access the asstr archive.
Never had problems before.
For the dozen or so readers who liked The Bearded Clam Mystery, I have re-edited, expanded and changed the ending of the story. Give it a try.
It has been fun. Thanks, Lazeez. I might get a few more stories before you all are rid of me.
Thanks for the all the kind words for 'I Won?'. Most of you liked the story. Even the critical emails were constructive and I thank you for those also. Yes, Jack could have been a lot more assertive and smarter. But then I've read too many stories where the teenage hero acts like a Fortune 500 chief executive. Carol was my readers' favorite character and she was my favorite too.
There will not be a sequel, but I am considering an edit and expansion to resolve and clarify some plot points based on reader feedback. There was mention of typos and misplaced words. If you happen to spot them please let me know and I'll correct the text.
