Thank you very much to the dozen of you who commented on my last post - I learned some new things from the replies. Firstly, there's still an awful lot of love out there for the classic writers, secondly, that Louis L'Amour also wrote four Hopalong Cassidy books, although I'm told that he denied doing so and always refused to autograph them, and thirdly, some of Zane Grey's books are also now in the public domain and available as free e-books on Project Gutenberg.
best wishes to you all for some quiet time to read over the holiday season!
I've always enjoyed the Westerns here on SOL, although some of the references go over my head. However, I've just come across the works of Clarence E Mulford on Project Gutenberg. Considering they were written in the first decade of last century, they are amazingly readable. If you've never read the original adventures of Hopalong Cassidy, Buck Peters and the others, I strongly recommend them.
Many thanks to the twenty or so readers who took the trouble to tell me what they thought of my first flash story. I know it's not a popular genre, but I reckoned I'd give myself the challenge of trying one.
A couple of people thought that my characters should have taken a slower revenge within the law rather than burying the cheaters under the compost heap; I'll give that a go, but I suspect it won't qualify as a flash story - but that's another challenge.
