Rantings
My niece, Rhiannon, was visiting the other day. Yeah, she was born in 1976, not long after Fleetwood Mac released the song that left half the women her age saddled with that name. I've always wondered why people, specifically my little sister, do such things. I'll leave it to others to speculate.
Anyway, Rhiannon started bemoaning the current state of popular music - specifically how she felt today's teens don't have what she described as a music of their own. It was actually a good observation and we could have had a great discussion about it. Having studied mass media in my college years, I could have told her why, and how, that happened. I could have drawn on forty years of working in broadcasting and advertising to point out the splintering of media that's happened since the advent of the internet in the past twenty some-odd years, which gives today's teens a multitude of outlets to seek out what they like for themselves.
I could have said how I think that's actually better than when I was growing up in the fifties and sixties with two radio stations and three television stations in town that basically force-fed us what was supposed to be popular. I could have told my own tales about the kind of promotional pressure the record companies would put on the radio stations to play what they determined to be the big hit. I never got the chance. She just kept going on and on and on with her rant, making rational discussion impossible. I finally just raised my hand and said "OK, Boomer."
That only served to set her off on a new rant about how I'm the actual Baby Boomer in the room and she is proudly and undeniably the Gen X'er. I pointed out to her that she was the one going off on the 'old fart rant' when I was ready to discuss the social and technological changes that have affected the entire entertainment industry since the internet came along. She didn't like my answer, so she left.
I'll never understand the younger generations…
I truly meant for the next chapter of Band Geek Diary to be ready for posting this weekend, but I was having too much fun with family and friends over the holidays and didn't write like I wanted. I do apologize and promise to get it posted as soon as it's ready (and I also promise that won't be the kind of months-long delay that you readers endured between chapters 19 and 20!)
Since the calendar lines up with the story's calendar, I'll point you to this weekend's adventures in chapter 19. Katie gives up her virginity to John on her 15th birthday on Friday night, but they have to endure John's folks putting on a celebration for Katie that keeps them from continuing the sex. Katie's mom, Becky, gives them a chance on Sunday.
Hang in there. Chapter 39 is coming soon.
It's a big weekend for John. He's losing his virginity on Saturday as a lesson in sex from his girlfriend's mother. Next weekend, he'll use the lessons from today to give Katie a proper first time as they celebrate her birthday. There's also an undercurrent in the story this weekend: John's parents seem really preoccupied about something. He thinks maybe his parents plan an orgy with the Kowalskis to celebrate the kids all going back to school. He's not totally wrong, but it's only his dad and Mrs K involved in what will happen on Monday. It's a tie-in with Chapter 6 of "Band Parents."
Chapter 38 of Band Geek Diary is already in the queue for posting on Sunday morning. It covers the remainder of John's trip to the cabin with Becky and Katie.
I hope you're still enjoying the story. Thanks for your support thus far.
Dang, I hope not.
This has, however, been a pretty good year. I realize I've only posted one new story (Making the Rent) in 2019, but that's because I've been working on Band Geek Diary - especially since August. That includes writing almost 20 new chapters and updating the first 19 chapters of the story. Chapter 38 will post on January 5 and I hope to be clicking that button that says "Story is complete" by the end of January.
That's a good thing, you see, because I've been writing other stuff whenever I get blocked on Band Geek Diary. That means there will be several stories to share in the new year. That includes a couple more Band Parents Universe stories as well as some other stuff that I felt the urge to write when I wasn't feeling the urge to write about John's adventures.
Anyway, I hope you chilled good champagne and have someone to kiss as the clock strikes midnight. Most of all I hope the next year is good to you.
Here's what's going on in Band Geek Diary the next week or so:
Chapter 16 in the story covers December 28 and 29 and tells how John and Katie have a Saturday together to hone their oral sex skills and try some non-penetrating genital contact. It's fun but the aftermath is sticky. A big snowstorm on Saturday night cancels the usual Sunday night dinner with Becky and Katie.
Chapter 17 covers most of the next week, December 31 through January 3, as the anticipation builds for John to give up his virginity to his girlfriend's mother. There are some tie-ins to events that happen in Band Parents, Abby the Flute Girl, and Abby's Blackmail attempt, as well.
What else? Well, there's a new chapter coming this Sunday. Chapter 37 covers the first part of the trip John takes to a mountain cabin with Katie and Becky. There's lots of sex, naturally, with an undertone that something might be wrong. We'll find out what's going on in Chapter 38, which will post on January 5.
Again, thanks for reading, commenting and voting. May the new year be good to you.
