Samuel Posted

I have just finished posting Samuel. It is one of the darkest stories that I've written. Some would say that it is a dramatic departure from Quatyl, Magic, and the Donaldsons. I would have to agree with that.

I just finished reading the collected works of another author here on SOL. He has over four hundred stories, but they are just the same three stories written with different names. The structure of all of his stories is identical. Each as the same beginning and he has one of three endings that are used over and over.

I do not want to be that kind of author. I want each story of mine to reach for something different. Whether the subject matter is spiritual, emotional, adventure, personal growth, humor, or just plain coping with life, each story should be unique.

The rate at which I've been posting has diminished significantly over the past year. My life has been busier than ever and only now is the dust beginning to settle. I will be posting more stories and completing the stories begun here, but my posts will continue to be sporadic for the time being. Please be patient.

Commune Finished

I posted the end of Commune today (actually it is now yesterday). I enjoyed working on it, but understand how others might not enjoy it. I realize that the topic is a bit depressing, particularly for individuals who might be going through circumstances similar to those described within the story.

I suppose that I ought to let it be known that 2/3 of the story had been written in November as part of my attempt to do a NaNoWriMo novel. I completed the required number of words by the end of November, but I didn't get to the end of the story. I held off publishing it, but life has gotten very busy and I had to ease off on writing. Rather than disappear for six months, I chose to start putting the novel on SOL. I raced to finish it before running out of chapters to upload. I just barely made it. Real life has been kicking the daylights out of my muse of late.

Some have wondered why I haven't been posting Magic. Well, Magic has taken a minor backseat to Commune because I didn't really want three unfinished novels hanging around while I was busy working. I'll be working a bit more on Magic now that Commune is done. I can't promise much, but I might be able to get out one chapter a week.

I sometimes think that a few fans believe that I'm a retired old guy who writes to occupy a bit of my time. I wish. The fact is that I work a full-time job that occasionally turns into more than a full-time job. When you get impatient for a new chapter, just remember that I'm doing this stuff for free and as a hobby. Have patience. I still have plenty of story ideas.

New Website

I have a new website thanks to the efforts and support of Sysyphus. Due to my hectic schedule, it has taken almost eight months to upload all of the chapters of my stories. The website is divided into two major parts: The Facts of Life and Stories.

The Facts of Life side is a wiki with a copy of the Millionaire Next Door and a rather limited start on the three articles referenced in the story. There is a lot of work to do yet. (You can give people the link to the Facts of Life Site and avoid the main page that leads to both.) I made it a wiki so that others can add their takes on the facts of life and contribute to the three articles.

The Story side of the site requires that individuals swear that they are of age to read stories of an adult nature and create an account. There is no charge to create an account. There is still a bit of work to do on the site. I have to add some forums, etc.

I have received a few e-mails asking if I am feeling alright since I haven't been posting much of late. The fact is that I've been busy with work. I will remain busy for the next six weeks at a minimum, but I will try to post a chapter when I can. Sorry for the delay, but the demands of real life trump hobbies.

William Redman Carter

The saga of William Redman Carter has come to an end. It is a quiet end; appropriate for a man who holds the future of the world in his hands. They say that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. That is true except when a Power That Be gets involved.

19M

Today I posted a chapter of Magic that brought my accumulated total of posted text to 19M of text on SOL. It was kind of an interesting landmark. And I'm not sure what it I think of it. There are still about 2M of text that has not been recovered from the lightning strike that ruined my network and the stories saved on them.

19M is a strange landmark to celebrate. It represents the posts of approximately 28 stories with 3 of them still in progress.
