Thanks to those who have nominated and voted for Off The Deep End for this year’s Clitorides. I am deeply gratified. It has prompted a bit of new activity on the story as, I guess, people are reading works they haven’t read. I have had some lovely messages from folks who are now just finishing OTDE and I can’t say thank you enough to people for sharing how much they enjoy my writing. It motivates me to get on with it.

I have just posted a new short story - an early version of a story from the upcoming “Japanese Internet Confessions”. It’s called “Girl’s Weekend” and it is, I guess, a story of mutual accidental seduction involving two young woman who have recently broken up with their shitty boyfriends. There are two wonderful real life experiences of mine attached to this story and I will share these in a future post. Enjoy!

It was a lovely surprise to go to the Clitorides website to vote and find that Off The Deep End had been nominated. 2023 was a big writing year for me and I have very much appreciated every kind word and constructive suggestion. If you’d like to make my 2024 start beautifully, consider voting for OTDE?

The last few months have been very hectic family and work wise. 2024 is shaping up to be more of the same. I am lucky to live in Australia where some health concerns with our 6 month old are being managed by specialists at the public children’s hospital and the entire cost covered by Medicare (national health). I’ve also been appointed to a new role at work which is both exciting and a little terrifying.

I am plodding along with writing two different lengthier pieces and finishing up an edited, rewritten version of ‘Internet Confessions’ which I hope to publish widely in print and digital - it is a combination of stories from the two volumes available on Bookapy with some additional tales. The main changes are a little more editing and some character/age changes to make it align with content guidelines for those platforms. I went back to work yesterday after the holiday, so once the year really gets going, we’ll see how much work I can get done on everything.

After over a decade on SOL as a lurker and later writer, I finally had a crack at a competition entry. The Secrets of Sutton House is available now for your reading pleasure. I didn’t place in the competition but it was fun writing an original flash piece. I’d be interested to see what people think of this compared to my other original stuff.

I am still working on my next novel-length piece but work has slowed as the end-of-year rush hammers me at work.

Thanks for the kind words I’ve received over the past few weeks. I have nothing ready to post story-wise for a bit - 6 weeks of crunch time at work and some big projects underway which are destroying my brain. I am still grinding away at down-drafts though; look for some stuff in time for the holidays.

I have dropped prices a little at Bookapy in consideration that everything is available here on SOL now, but I would appreciate any support you can show me here or by buying me a coffee at ko-fi.com/kimlittlewrites - turns out that I needed to replace the front suspension on the family car, as well as flush the transmission. And at some point early in the new year I need to replace the rear suspension and possibly the timing belt.

I'm also motoring along with the new novel. Compared to writing 'Off The Deep End', this one is proving more of a slog because of the combination of finding writing time as well as not getting the instant gratification of posting as I write. Because I'm writing to complete the whole thing before posting, so as to avoid some of the weaknesses of my first novel-length piece, I'm suffering dopamine withdrawal because I'm not getting those frequent hits of reader response.

Ah, well. Probably better for my mental health.

Also, if you are a frequent reader of this blog, you may have noticed I blitzed all my older entries. Yeah, I did. That was intentional. It's spring here in the antipodes, so time for spring cleaning. ^_^
