50 Shades of Meh

Posted at Updated:

My wife has recently discovered "50 Shades of Gray" - the movie, not the books - and finds it exciting. Having started reading the first book when it first became popular a few years ago, and having heard the reviews of the movie when it came out, I imagine it will be a disappointment.

I was wondering if anyone here knew of a similar story, something with a little light male domination, that might be a good read for my wife. It HAS to be a FUN read. Being fun is probably more important than being good or really sexy. If anyone can help, please send me a note.

Thank you.

2022 must really hate me!!!!

I realize I don't post much here. "Pie in the first Person", "A Classy lady" and "The Nuclear Option" - the last three stories I've posted here - were not what I like to write, or what I like to read. I prefer longer stories, to write and to read. Don't get me wrong, I AM STILL WRITING! I just don't seem to be able to finish anything anymore. Some weird form of writer's block.

I realize I don't write too many blogs here anymore either. Even though, as I've said in my previous blogs, I DO read all the blogs posted here, just out of pure dumb, stupid habit.

I don't write blogs because, I don't have any stories to talk about and I am a Tea-party supporting, low tax, small government, Trump-supporting Conservative American. So whenever I veer into politics on here, I get slammed and told what an idiot I am. With no stories to discuss, and politics off the table, I don't usually have much to say.

But this fucking year must really hate me!!! The damn pandemic cost me a job I loved and, just this year, I've had, not one, but two cancer scares.

First, they found a nodule on my Thyroid. It was cancerous. I no longer have a Right thyroid. Even the surgeon who removed it told me that "if you're going to get cancer, this is the kind of cancer you wanna get." Just having the cancer and the Thyroid removed was enough. Thankfully.

I am in a study for non-smokers, I quit about fifteen years ago. So I get a CT scan of my lungs done every year. This year, something on that scan worried somebody and I was sent for a PET scan. The PET scan itself isn't horrible. Just takes a while. I had the PET scan today and, amazingly, already got my results.

ALL CLEAR!

And I thought 2021 was bad!!

I have a birthday coming up, my 54th, and Christmas.

But what I'm really looking forward to, is the damn new year. Jimeny Christmas and Pete, how much can they throw at a guy!?!?!?

Everyone, please be careful....

A few days ago, the United States Supreme Court overturned a New York state gun control law.

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned Roe v. Wade, the decades old law that made abortion legal across the country.

Just for your information, overturning Roe does NOT make abortion illegal across the country, no matter what the girls on "The View" say. It simply returns the choice to the states and us, the people.

There are a lot of people who are unhappy about these two rulings. So unhappy that I suspect some of them will turn to violence in the next few hours, days and weeks: rioting, looting, arson...

I don't care which side of the rulings you come down on. It doesn't matter whether you're mad about these rulings or whether you're happy about them...

Please don't do anything stupid!

Don't be one of the bad guys and don't let yourself become a victim of the bad guys who are out there. Stay home, stay safe, be careful and, if needed, protect yourself, your family and your friends.

Summer Road Trip 2.0???

Posted at Updated:

I have a question for anyone who reads this post and has actually taken the time and trouble to read my first ever posted novel, "Summer Roadtrip."

It has been twenty plus years since I wrote and first published "Roadtrip." Between then and now, the story has been edited, by me and others, a number of times. Trust me, it reads 2000% better now than it did when I first published it. Back then, I often switched back and forth between past and present tense, confused their, there and they're as well as to and too. Characters switched ages, names, a section of the story is missing... I have learned a lot and have become a much better writer since then. I think.

I've always felt bad about how bad "Summer Roadtrip" really is. (Another embarrassment, "Roadtrip" should be two words.)

So, since I haven't posted anything else in a while, I was thinking about going through and trying to fix the story. This will mean some real changes to the story. I'm talking changing the names of some characters, fixing ages, adding some, or changing, some important parts of the story, maybe even taking out some parts of the story.

For those who actually enjoyed this story, would you be interested in reading, or re-reading, a new and improved version of the story? Do you think this is a good idea or would I just be wasting my time? If I do it, should I post the new and improved version over the original or should I post it as a new version of the story, "Summer Road Trip 2.0"?

Please give me opinions. If no one is interested in an improved version, I won't waste my time and will just go on my merry way.

Thank you.

A Correction.... Cancel Culture.

Posted at Updated:

It was pointed out to me, correctly, that I was spreading misinformation in the blog entry I wrote yesterday. I got carried away. I went too far and ended up screwing it up. I apologize. The offending blog entry has been removed.

Dr. Seuss was NOT banned. The six books, written by Dr. Seuss, were pulled from publishing by the people who own the rights and publish the books. The rest of the blog entry is accurate. The books were pulled because someone out there screamed that the books were racist. They've been around for 90 years but now, all of a sudden, these books, these children's books, are racist.

Those six books are disappearing from Amazon, and Ebay is no longer allowing the books to be bought or sold, while they continue to allow other books, including Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf" to be bought and sold.

As one of the people who wrote and corrected me said "Cancel Culture Sucks" and it needs to be stopped before it goes too far. It's going to ruin our right to free speech and a free press. This has got to stop.
