When I write I do not spend a lot of time focusing on my spelling nor on grammatical correctness. I try to let the words flow from my head through my fingers and let it spill out onto the keyboard.
When I finish, I usually do a cursory attempt to check spelling mistakes, and to make sure that I haven't made any gross mistakes in sentence structure, but, to be completely honest, after reading the same paragraph a dozen or so times, I miss stuff.
I've known from my days writing papers in college how important it is to have a fresh set of eyes read through your work. And I feel fortunate that I found someone who was willing to donate their time to assist me in creating this story. So, I would like to give a big thank you to Landrious for his work in improving my story and making it more readable. And, if you would like, maybe give him a message to say thank you for his efforts.
I didn't bother to add the "Warriors Creed" to the story because I didn't think it would fit the flow of the moment. Still, someone pointed out that this might be a good place to add it for those of you who don't know what I was talking about.
The Warriors Creed
Do not hurt where holding is enough;
Do not wound where hurting is enough;
Do not maim where wounding is enough;
And kill not where maiming is enough;
The greatest warrior is one who does not need to kill.
Stephen R. Donaldson
Err ... I goofed.
What I saw on my word processor is not what showed up when I checked my story over here on SOL. I've gone back through and corrected the formatting errors (I think/hope), and the corrected chapter should hopefully show up soon.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
I have uploaded Chapter 3.
I'll post the next chapter on Tuesday. I'm trying to space them out so that I have time for the final chapter to get edited and allow for my usual tinkering.
Again, I would like to thank the people who have been very generous with their support thus far, and I continue to hope that you will enjoy the story after it is finished.
The second chapter of Patience should hopefully be up soon. At least if I submitted the chapter correctly.
I would like to thank the people who have been very encouraging of my initial story. I can only hope that you still enjoy the story after I have finished it.
I would also like to thank the individual who provided invaluable work in editing it, but I do not have their permission, nor am I sure as to how they would like for me to reference them. Still, without their help, this story would not be as readable as it is now.
Also ... Well ... I can't help but tinker. So, any problems that you see with spelling, grammar, etc ... they are mine and mine alone.
I have learned quite a bit about the writing process in performing this exercise. One of the most important things that I have learned is that I could have done more. I will need to spend more time working through my next story and hopefully make the characters feel more alive. Or at least more alive to me.
I hope you enjoy.
