It seems funny to read a comment from a reader about what a loser your main character is. Don't they realize that he's a loser because that is how you described him to them?
And yet, there are just as many readers who heap praise on the character. They interpret things differently, based on their own standards and values.
When the mixture of character sentiment is about evenly divided, between those who praise and those who damn, I find myself cackling in glee and reaching for yet another glass of Riesling.
