The four that remain set not to emerge until the day of their 18th birthday when their genes could be altered to resist the virus. However, when they emerge from their slumber, something about the man is different. As time goes on and the group goes about repopulating the world, the side effects of the genetic alteration are discovered, and the man does not age and produces only female children.
