Jake quickly dodged the stone spearhead that nearly nicked his ribs, then whacked it away with his own spear. Annalisa grunted, nearly losing her grasp as her weapon jarred in her grip, then pulled against its wayward sway and swung at Jake's head. Jake ducked again, this time gripping her spear and pulling on it, causing Annalisa to fall forward. She yelped in surprise as his spear sliced against her hip and slid on by. That had been a narrow escape.

"Time?" she cried, needing to catch her breath after that short, fierce bout with her husband.

"I get the winner?" a female voice called out from the edge of the meadow.

They both turned to see a young, very naked and dark-haired female advancing toward them. Neither of them recognized her – at least until she opened her mouth...

"Oh, come on, daddy," Elsa grinned. "You don't recognize me in this new carcass?"

Jake stared at her for a moment. "Lisa?" he asked, his eyebrows raised in utter confusion. "Why do you look like that? What're you doing here?"

"Here as in New Eden?" she asked, popping a kiss against his cheek and ignoring his first question. "Or here in this Godforsaken wilderness!"

"Well, here," Jake uttered, still stunned by the sudden presence of his... "Who ... How did this..." he gestured at her bare body, "happen?"

Elsa shrugged. "Life goes on – you live, you die, you live again. What can I say?" She gazed up into his eyes. "Ya know, I have this strange feeling inside – like I've missed you – or something." She blinked, and Jake wasn't certain that he'd seen tears misting in her eyes. But, they were gone, now.

"Well, darlin'," Jake grinned, wrapping his arms around the girl. "I've certainly missed you!" He hugged her tightly, not noticing until he's spun her completely around to where he could see Annalisa over his daughter's shoulder that his wife was glaring at him. "Don't be jealous, sweetie," he mouthed at her. "She's my daughter."

"If I remember correctly," Annalisa growled at him. "You told me once that you fucked her."

Jake shrugged. "Not this one..." he grinned. He didn't understand exactly what had happened to Lisa, but he was glad to confess that he hadn't had his dick in the body she had now. Annalisa could get really jealous. But, something was suddenly more important.

"You died?" he asked, holding Lisa at shoulder length as he peered down at her delectably naked body. "How did that happen?"

"Hmm," Elsa shrugged. "I got up close and personal with a volcano. I lost."

Annalisa snickered, watching the image that her (daughter-in-law?) broadcast at them. "Fuck, I bet that was fun."

"It was," Elsa agreed. "But I didn't know it would kill me."

"How did it feel," Annalisa asked, morbidly fascinated, "when you died?"

"Sweetheart," Jake admonished his wife. "What kind of question is that?"

"It's okay, dad," Elsa interrupted, sitting down in the rough grasses. She patted the area next to her, inviting her step-mom and her dad to join her.

Annalisa plopped down beside her, absently brushing blood off her already healed wound. "So, tell me! What was it like?"

Elsa sighed. "It was like..." She thought for a moment, softly radiating something that Jake hadn't believed Lisa could feel. "Like ... being on vacation. A long, peaceful visit to the park, ya know?"

Annalisa shook her head, eagerly absorbing the images floating through her head.

"I just ... took a long nap," Elsa added, her eyes half closed in serenity. "I would've been content to lie there forever, I think – dreaming, listening to the wind, watching trees grow..."

"Watching trees grow?" Jake asked, disbelieving. "You know how long it takes a tree to grow?"

Elsa simply smiled. Jake sighed and rolled his eyes. Annalisa chuckled. "I can imagine! So! Your body? It ... What? What happened to it?"

"It, um, calcified," Elsa admitted. "I tried to move it after a time, and it wouldn't."

"It'd been too long, and you let it die," Annalisa mused, her thoughts going somewhere deep in her mind.

"But you have a new body, now," Jake said, almost asking a question.

Elsa nodded, grinning and holding up her arms. "Yep! Brand new – only a few weeks old! Or maybe a few million years, depending on your point of view. It was created millions of years ago, but I've only ... um ... only had it for a few weeks."

"You were created?" Annalisa asked. "Not born?"

Elsa sighed. "Yes. I found myself in a bed of flowers." She broadcast the image of waking up and being surrounded by an impossible field of scented flowers, her skin warmed by the sun, her body caressed by a soft breeze.

"Whoo, somebody sure knows how to take care of you," Annalisa murmured.

"Whoo is right," Jake smirked. "Somebody was wooing you?"

"I think I was a little insane when I left New Eden. I needed to find some kind of peace of mind," Elsa admitted, actually sounding a bit wistful. "The Hurrahs helped me."

"The spiders?" Jake asked incredulously. "You hate those things!"

"Spiders?" Annalisa asked, not understanding.

Elsa leaned forward, attracting Annalisa's attention as her boobs swayed in front of her. "Close your eyes." She took hold of one of her hands.

"Who, me?" Annalisa asked, not sure if she was about to be sexually assaulted or smacked. After a few seconds of Elsa staring at her, she sighed, then snapped her eyes shut.

'Dream-walk with me, ' Elsa whispered, and Annalisa suddenly realized that Lisa was standing next to her – as well as sitting right in front of her, holding her hand. Dream-walking!

She took Lisa's hand and stood up, staring at this unknown daughter-in-law with wonder. 'You look like Lisa, now!' she exclaimed.

'Well, my mind hasn't caught up with my... ' Elsa thought for a moment, then decided on 'circumstances. I'm still used to looking like this.'

'Where are we going?' Annalisa asked anxiously.

'Nowhere, ' Elsa explained. 'I simply want to show you something.'

Annalisa waited, then gasped in surprise as Lisa caused their surroundings to darken.

'Look, ' Lisa said, pointing. Something fuzzy and indistinct was hovering near Jake.

'What is that?' Annalisa asked, suddenly worried that the whatever-it-was might attack her husband.

'That's Jake's Hurrah, ' Lisa explained. 'His spider. His Guardian.'

'Get real!' Annalisa smirked, clearly not believing this psychotic Phoenix. But then she noticed a fuzzy indistinct something hovering behind Lisa – the one sitting in front of her. 'OHMYGOD! There's one right behind you!' She pointed down to where Lisa was sitting in the grass. 'Look!'

Annalisa was so frightened, she lost control. Finding herself back in her body, she immediately fell as she tried to clamber up and away from the nightmares surrounding her. She backed away, pointing and gurgling, unable to form words in her terror.

But ... there was nothing there! Nothing hovering behind Jake, nothing behind Lisa. And Lisa was no longer standing beside her. "Ah ... ah ... How..." she gasped, unable to catch a breath.

Elsa blinked a couple of times, then looked up at a terrified Annalisa. She sighed and held out her hand, radiating calm at the terrified hybrid who was getting ready to form her wings and flee into the sky.

'What the hell's going on?" Jake wanted to know. The last thing he'd noticed was Lisa and Annalisa sitting down and touching their hands together. "Honey, are you okay?" Then to his daughter, "What'd you do to her?"

Elsa sighed, still holding out her hand, still radiating that calming presence that she'd not previously – ever – been able to achieve. After a moment, Jake's consternation faded, as did Annalisa's terror. In another moment, all three were seated in the grassy meadow.

"I'm impressed, sweetheart," Jake smiled at his daughter, amazed that she hadn't exploded at his accusation. "You have accomplished the impossible!" At her inquisitive gaze, he added, "Serenity."

She smiled. "It wasn't easy."

"What happened?" Jake wanted to know.

"She showed me..." Annalisa began, then continued, "the spiders."

"Oh," was all Jake said.

"Oh?" Annalisa gasped. "Is that it?" OH?"

Jake nodded. "I know about them. Lisa told me once."

"But ... but..." Annalisa gasped, and Elsa glowed more 'calm' at her.

"Yeah," Jake grinned. "They're everywhere."

"Look!" Annalisa protested. "Mind-Raiding Praetors are one thing – I can block them out of my mind! Plus, there aren't any in this time period! But ... friggin' spiders?"

"Liz," Jake implored her and Elsa smirked at the pet name, "Get over it, okay? They've always been here. Even before your people came here, you had them with you. The Hurrahs are not only everywhere, here – they're everywhere, everywhere!"

"My people?" Annalisa was completely off the boards, now enraged and out of control. "You're 'my people' too, Hak..."

'STOP!' Elsa shouted into Annalisa's mind. 'That's my father you're messing with! You may have stolen him from my mother using his forgotten love for you, but you'll NOT mess with his memories just to prove your righteous point of view! He is his own man, and you will leave him intact!'

"Or what?" Annalisa snarled out loud, surprising Jake, as he was unaware of the psychic discord between the two hybrids. "I don't feel any Phoenix fire in you, 'Lisa', did you lose that when you lost your last body? Why don't we see how well you can back up your words!"

Jake scrambled to his feet as Annalisa leapt at his daughter. He was uncertain how well Lisa could handle herself, being so new in this form, and he needed to protect them from hurting each other. He definitely didn't want Annalisa turned into a crispy critter by an outraged Phoenix!

Elsa simply sat and watched Annalisa as she leaped at her. Her slight smile as Annalisa slammed into an invisible force field and bounced to the ground was unnoticed by her assailant. Jake stopped and stared.

"Tabby took my fire," Elsa offered as explanation, "but I have her time shield. Fair trade, you think?"

Jake sat down, upset that things had turned so ugly between his beloved daughter and his cherished wife. He watched as Annalisa groaned and tried to sit up, only to fall back to the ground, completely knocked out. "Why did you come here, Lisa? Surely you didn't come just to pick a fight with my wife – did you?"

Elsa shimmered for a second as her time shield faded and she was once more in the present. "I came to tell you..." she sighed, not knowing exactly how to explain. "We're leaving."

"We?" Jake asked, "We, who?"

"All of us," Elsa replied. "Everybody, New Eden. The entire planet. We're all leaving."

Jake simply stared.

"We're going to another planet, dad," Elsa tried to explain. "We're going out to colonize a new world – one where we can all live and have room to grow and expand as a ... as a people. A culture."
