Saturday, December 24, 1983 had everyone celebrating at another huge party and wedding reception after the marriage of Robert Michael Seldon and Crystal Dawn North. It definitely seemed as though some dark force was spreading throughout the Islamic world...

And 1985 only brought more of the same ... in February, Israel began withdrawing troops from Lebanon, but it hadn't taken long to prove that would solve nothing ... and then the CIA made matters worse! In March, rogue operatives attempted to assassinate an Islamic cleric believed to be associated with Hezbollah and who had supported the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut back in 1983. It was also in retaliation for the kidnapping of the Beirut CIA station chief the year before, who was still being held captive.

Hezbollah was further enraged when it was suggested that Saudi Arabia had paid the CIA to carry out the assassination attempt! And then things seemed even more confusing when information from other sources indicated that Saudi Arabia had also paid money to Hezbollah as an enticement not to launch any attacks on Saudi interests...

Megan couldn't help but wonder what all these confusing events were leading to?!!

The first bright spot for that year came toward the end of May with the birth of Lana Aurora Seldon. Only her grandparents, Tom and Lynda and Jon and Barbara North, were able to fly up to Stanford Medical Center to see her. Robbie had called them as soon as Crystal went into labor, but they weren't able to get a flight quick enough to arrive before she was born. The rest of their family and friends got to meet her when they came down to L.A. for a 4th of July celebration...
