Chapter 13

Jess gave Ron a call and explained our findings in the safe, he said he would give Ray Cook a call and be right over. They both arrived pretty close together. While we had been waiting for Ron and Ray to turn up Jess had counted the money, "Jesus Jimmy, there's nearly a thousand pounds here, he must have really been helping himself, we definitely have to get that audit underway now."

Ray was very interested in the passport, "I'll take this Jess if you don't mind, it might shine a bit more light on Mr De Vent, I'll give you a receipt if you want."

"That won't be necessary Ray" said Ron, "It's of no value to us but it would be interesting to find out a bit more about this Cyril Metcalf fellow."

When Ron and Ray went Jess and I got our heads together and formulated our plan for the store. Jenny arrived home from school and we told her of the events since we dropped her off at school. Jenny was all in favour of Jess and I taking control of the store, we told her she would also play a part in the decision making as she was a part owner.

Our plan was to open the store on Monday and have a staff meeting; we would explain the need for an audit of the accounts and tell them that Jess and I would be jointly managing the store.

Once we had our plan sorted out I had a headache on top of my headache. I told them I was going for a walk to clear my head, Jen asked if she could come as well? I told her she was more than welcome; she could try to fill in a few gaps about 'Jimmy' and his history.

We took off for our walk and Jen started to fill me in about my past, "you were a quiet person Jimmy, you kept out of trouble and was an excellent student, you didn't make friends easily and was a bit of a loner. I keep using the past tense Jimmy cos I think you have changed an awful lot since your accident, you seem more mature and have a lot more confidence in yourself as well."

Jen went on to tell me some of the more memorable things I did, some were childish and silly, others were more sensible. "One thing I have noticed is that you are more attentive to me than you were before, then I was just your little sister, now you treat me as an equal, I like that Jimmy it makes me feel closer to you." I thought about Jessica's comment "she worships you Jimmy" I promised myself I would always respect her feelings.

Monday we were at the store to open it, I placed a card in the door window stating we would open at 10 o'clock due to a staff meeting. When all the staff arrived I took the floor, "You all know me but due to my injury my memory's blocked so if you wouldn't mind would you please introduce yourselves?"
