Snow fell like forgotten lullabies, soft and endless. Giraffe stood still beneath the swirling sky, his long lashes catching flakes like secrets. Atop his ossicone, Dove nestled in quiet dignity, feathers puffed against the cold.
“Do you think it will stop?” Giraffe asked, his voice slow and deep, like a cello played in a cathedral.
Dove tilted her head. “Perhaps. Or perhaps it will keep falling until the world forgets its colors.”
Giraffe blinked. “And then what?”
“Then we become stories,” she said. “You, the tower in the blizzard. Me, the punctuation mark on your crown.”
Giraffe smiled, a slow stretch of warmth beneath the frost. “I’ve never been a story before.”
