"What the hell do you want from me?!" he shouted. Jovah's skin beneath his dark tan was an angry red, a sheen of perspiration beginning to form, his eyes banked coals. "I've given you everything that you could ever want!"
"What do I want from you?!" Adeena shouted back. "Do you think all I want is jewels? Roses?" She brandished the bouquet of long-stemmed roses that he'd given her the day before for good measure. "You can't buy love!" She hurled the flowers at him and the bouquet exploded when it struck him, falling in a shower of red petals and green stems at his feet. A thin red line blossomed at his cheek and a single maroon pearl emerged. "I want to be with the man that you really are, not the one that's entranced with giving gifts." Her slim hand clenched at her hip as the familiar sting brought tears to her eyes. "I want you to do things from your heart," she whispered, her voice ragged. "And it's not spending money. It's not trying to impress me." She looked up at him, her eyes flashing anger again. "What you are to me now... you're weak, you're empty!"
Jovah stomped towards her, stray red petals falling from his shoulders, a cascade of red. Adeena scampered back, her heart racing in anger and fear.
"I'm weak?" Jovah snarled, reaching out quickly to snatch her wrist. "Empty?" He yanked her hard against him and she gave a small squeak. "Is that what you think I am? Do you know what I think you are? A vapid little tease! A cold-hearted witch!"
Adeena swung her free hand at him before thinking and her open palm crashed into the side of his face. "Bastard," she hissed from between her gritted teeth. She gave her other arm a yank, trying to free herself but Jovah's grip remained unchanged.
"You dare hit me?" he growled. His hand tightened about her wrist and Adeena gave a small whimper in pain. "I could snap your wrist so easily," he growled softly. Adeena's breath came faster and Jovah was torn between believing that it came from either fear or lust or both.
He took a step forward and Adeena took an unsteady step backwards. They did this little dance before her back was pressed firmly against the wall and his body was fitting her curvy contours against his. Taking a deep breath, Jovah released Adeena's hand.
"I dare you to hit me again," he said after a few moments, keeping his hands by his sides. "I dare you." They locked eyes for what seemed to be an eternity.
Then Adeena swung her hand, only this time, Jovah caught it before she hit him. With a skillful twist, he had her arm pinned behind her and her body bent over the desk, papers and pens and files falling to the floor in a passionate collage. Jovah pressed his hips firmly against her buttocks, giving her a clear message what was about to happen. Adeena didn't say anything. She couldn't. All she could do was let out a hungry moan.
"You tried to hit me again," Jovah whispered in her ear. He gave her arm a sharp yank and Adeena gave a small cry. "You little bitch." He took great relish in saying that word, secretly praying that she would respond the way he hoped.
