I read this story elsewhere, so since it may not be identical in the form it's being posted, I may be off in my judgment of it. However, I believe it was - and is - delightfully original. Not many stories have the magic-wielding thrust into technological society, and of those I'm familiar with, none were even close in the other details of this story. The characters were refreshingly different, and even the often-used plot elements didn't feel tired.
Technically, nothing glaring jumped out. Fans of fantasy and science fiction, especially well-read fans, should find this story entertaining to say the least. There's even a little romance and a little action to interest those not in that first group. About the only people I'd suggest should pass on this story are those looking for pure stroke.
