This is the second story by Aubie I have read and I feel it will be my last.
I tried to give an honest shot and this is what I feel.
1968 Land of the Giants. TV show, lasted two seasons then GONE. It didn't work then, it doesn't work now.
The concept is SciFi/Fantasy with a squad of Marines "transported" to another world. I do have to tip my hat for not supplying them with everything they need. At least they had to work within their means on this new world.
The narrative was so-so and just matter of fact. I lacked "flavor". The sex was put in because someone thought there should be sex included.
I also wonder where were the higher forms of life. Birds, predator mammals. Little things like that would have been good to add to the mix.
In Chapter 21 we went from sorta boring to just plain silly. The field/meadow mice that have been captured for food/beasts of burden suddenly start talking. Full sentences, ENGLISH, with original thought and sexual urges that are just plain unbelievable. Not that the critters acquired speech and syntax over a period of generations and teaching, no, they acquired it just from listening to their keepers for less than a year. Those benevolent humans then immediately arm them and teach them to go against generations of inherited survival instincts to stand and fight. Oh wait, they taught them to use crossbows and spears of a sort.
I just can't say anything good about this other than the spell check was used along with a grammar checker.
