There is an art to writing a good flash story. This particular flash story perfectly encapsulates the idea of "The Test." At its core this is a boring idea: We've already seen this idea in longer form over and over again, so there is nothing 'new' for it to contribute. Instead, what DB Story offers is idea of 'The Test,' stripped of all unnecessary trappings with only the idea itself remaining. Oddly enough, Relationships 102 has a similar feel to it, despite its length. Sadly, Relationships 103 fails completely, likely because DB Story chose to use pre-existing emails rather than exercising his skills as a writer, perhaps to justify giving the story a "True" tag.
Relationships 101 is an excellent flash story that does its job perfectly. It offers a short glimpse of the protagonist's life, and an interesting one at that.
