If you've read any of my reviews or the little I've written you know I'm a sucker for a romance, especially if it has some angst, some sweetness, some heartbreak, and some redemption. This one has it all. Joe is 32, divorced, and an overall nice guy. Maybe a little too passive in relationships. After moving into an apartment he becomes friendly with his neighbor, a pretty hot woman about his age, who cries on his shoulder after disappointing dates. While he'd like to be more than friends, you know how it is, she sees him as only a friend. Now I'm sure you're already thinking that something is going to develop there... sorry, something completely different. Susan's 16 year old niece Emily comes to visit for the summer and Joe being the nice guy he is entertains her while Susan continues with her somewhat free lifestyle. He's a gentleman though. He wouldn't even consider taking advantage of the cute girl he's spending so much of the summer with. Of course the nice guy and the innocent girl can't help but fall in love. Now, in another story, they'd immediately jump into bed, have amazing sex, and live together for the rest of their lives. Sorry again, doesn't happen here. Remember, I said there is sweetness, angst, heartbreak, promise of redemption? You have to read it to find the rest.
I enjoyed the plot. It was far more complete and realistic than the usual teen sex fantasy that shows up on SOL. Kind of formulaic but it has it's twists too. I don't remember seeing editing errors. At least nothing interrupted the flow of my reading. While there is some sex described, and described well, it's not a stroke story - hey, it's a love story!
