Where do I begin? This was a fantastic story. Very dark and somewhat hard to read, but nonetheless fantastic on many levels. Obviously, there was a certain amount of eroticism in it, but to me that was not the biggest impact of the story.
As big of a romantic as I am, the story deeply moved me although it is nowhere near being a romance.
Jim is a middle east war veteran who comes back to his hometown to take care of business. The author is very stingy with the details, but the story comes out over time. Jim isn’t exactly there to right a wrong, but he wants to settle a score for something that happened to his female cousin. His only other living relative is her father...a drunken, broken man. Jim has done wrong to them both.
This author has a way with words that leaves me in awe. It is obvious from a few of his words that he is not from the United States, but otherwise you could not tell. All his idioms are very well done.
This author has written one other story that appears on SOL. I read it also, and highly recommend it. I am very eager to read more of his work.
I am giving this author very high marks for this story. The only reason I am giving a nine for appeal is that this is a very dark story, and will definitely elicit emotion in the reader. It may not be suitable for some people. This is not a feel-good story, nor was it meant to be.
