Lost story x2

LastCallAgain

Older man meets homeless teen in.. . A mall parking garage maybe? Turns out she's pregnant, he takes her in and gives her a home until the baby comes (and of course they fall in love and L.H.E.A.)

Another one, very similar but I only read the beginning. He finds her in his backyard in a rainstorm. He thought she was vandalizing his garden but it turns out she was foraging for food(?)

Thanks in advance...

The first one sounds like "The Proposition" by WTSman

second one looks like Human Man by Refusenik

First one I read but can't put my finger on. I remember a story where he was recovering after his wife left. Also there was an high profile call girl involved with him reentering the date game. Maybe I'm mixing up several stories.

Second one is not "Human Man" (at least not according to the description provided). The scene you are remembering in that story is a homeless girl huddling up to the MC's fence and heated asphalt backyard in the middle of a snowstorm.

Thanks Blacksash! That's the one.

As for the second, it is similar to the scene in Human Man, but in the story I'm looking for this scene happens at the very beginning. Thanks for the suggestions!

Not sure but the second one sounds like a post apocalyptic I read a while back. Guy ended up with the thief that was stealing from his garden. Name was harsh winter or something like that. Maybe. Could be.

@miksmit

That's 'Hard Winter', by 'Big guy on a bike'. Not sure it's what LastCallAgain is looking for though. The scene in the garden is near the beginning but not immediately; she's digging up spuds, and she has a daughter with her. Good story though and I wondered what happened to the author, as he wrote a few good ones over a relatively short span and then just stopped.

If I remember right, he was in the military. Sent to the sands as everyone calls it. Never saw anything afterwards, so he might have been a casualty.

Could be, or he came back and found he had to deal with a few things before writing again. One writer I know from another forum went to the sand, and hasn't been able to write since he came back. His last stories before he gave up were done when he first arrived over there, events afterwards mean writing brings back some memories that he nees to have fade a bit before he can write again.

Definitely a possibility. I know for a fact that no one goes through their personal hell on earth without being changed. A war zone (regardless of name) definitely qualifies as hell.

I think i read the second one,but i cant remember the name.Maybe this will help someone find it.Guy finds a girl in his trash looking for food,she might have a sister,they ran away from foster care.He calls his friend who is a lawyer,she is also a friend with benefits.They get married so they can adopt girl.

Hard Winter isn't the one I'm looking for, but it does look interesting and I'll give it a read. Thanks for all the suggestions gang!

Vagabonds by blackrandl1958 is the story you are referring to. Not sure that's the one the op is looking for though

aripeone

Thanks for the info,need to read it again.

LastCallAgain

@gregwynn I'm pretty sure Vagabonds is the one I'n looking for. Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions.

If you have not read it you might like "Caring for Julie" by Uncle Jim. Man hears his doorbell and finds his teen neighbor standing in the rain and very pregnant.

@blacksash

The homeless girl in Human Man wasn't foraging for food in the garden, she was freezing to death by the fence of the guy's new 7 figure home in the middle of the night. The Human stories by Refusenik are a couple of my favorites.

He has a blog entry from Feb 2016. He even posted a story in 2014.
