I have had a scene from a story in my head for ages and I'm not sure where its from (online, book, tv, film or my own dreams).
A guy is depressed about something (I think he'd just been dumped) and he pours himself a drink. His best friend's younger sister catches him and starts shouting at him because he's allergic to alcohol.
That's the only thing I can remember.

Given that both comments are slang, and that slang tends to use sarcastic or ironic word choice, I'd say that it's a peculiarity of slang not of English. Unfortunately, I don't speak any other languages fluently enough to say for sure, but I suspect that the tendency towards using sarcastic slang is probably universal, at least with those languages which have loose enough grammar to allow it.
