The issue with Fanbase-bias and finding good stories in specialized sites

SoL is more devise

I suspect you mean 'SoL is more diverse ..'

There's not much point in mentioning a story just by its name, because it's likely people haven't read it, and thus can't help you. Say a bit about what you're after and people can make a recommendation.

The "If you have nothing positive to say, don't post it." mentality is a great contributor to the problem.

The opposite mentality, "pick every story apart for the smallest flaws" would result in an even bigger problem, a story site with no authors and consequently no stories.

The authors who post to free story sites are amateurs, they don't have the resources for the kind of professional editing that the dead tree publishers provide.

You can have free stories or you can have literature quality stories. You aren't going to find a site that provides literature quality stories for free.

You get what you pay for.

Funny thing about decently-sized fanbases - you get a lot of help with editing and can publish near-error-free text if you have a base of early readers.

Assuming your fanbase's spelling and grammar aren't worse than your own. :)

Or they have very different views of grammar rules (prescriptive versus descriptive).

Or worse, they speak something they call English which appears to be a foreign tongue with all kinds of strange spellings and word usage, despite allegedly being the same language you speak! :-)
