I'm kidding. Of course, I know and all three of my editors know that Charleston is in South Carolina and not in North Carolina. But we still didn't catch my gaff until you all pointed it out.
Two years ago, I had the privilege of visiting Charleston as I wandered up the East Coast from Florida. Loved the old town and walking along the park. Visited Fort Sumter, of course, and also found a nice little cigar shop that had my favorites in stock. Toured the Exchange Museum and had a nice dinner at a brew pub near there.
I remember thinking of my little group of Indian Guides who gathered together on Sunday nights for a eight weeks back in 1959 to watch Disney's presentation of "The Swamp Fox" when I drove north through Francis Marion National Forest. "Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox, tail on his hat... nobody knows where the Swamp Fox at..." Then Old Rotorhead sent me a message and told me not to miss Brookgreen Gardens as I continued north toward Myrtle Beach. Astounding. Spent the entire afternoon there.
So my apologies to you Charlestonians (and others) for placing your fair city in the wrong Carolina. But, like forgetting the name of the person I met last night, I can't promise it won't happen again.
