I had an interesting comment from a reader. Grim has now been wounded in action three times, qualifying him for a third Purple Heart. The question was raised, doesn't this give him the 'three and out' excuse to get out of combat? I had never heard of this, and none of my military editors had ever mentioned such. However, the individual mentioning this pointed up an obscure Navy regulation from the Viet Nam era that seemed to let now-Senator John Kerry go home early.
DO NOT WRITE ME COMPLAINING ABOUT JOHN KERRY! I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR POLITICS OR WHETHER HE IS A TRAITOR! JUST DON'T!
That being said, does anybody know if this is legit? From what I gathered from reading the incredibly partisan news stories, it seemed that it wasn't automatic, but had to be requested by the soldier or sailor. I don't see Grim doing that sort of thing, not when his men were staying behind. Still, I am curious. Thanks.
