It's silly, really. Caveat: My stories are short and not really affected by the changes. Every author likes to see their stories get high scores, even when they claim otherwise. It's an ego thing. I think a more important gauge of reader acceptance for the author of long stories posted over time is the download numbers per chapter. Are the numbers staying consistent for each new posting, or even rising? Then you are doing good! Your readers are staying with you. New readers can see the total downloads and are usually smart enough to realize that large numbers of downloads usually means a pretty damn good story.
