This week with Arlene and Jeff:
...It's a military academy - well there's a couple of years of flight school, but there is a tremendous curriculum that is thrown into the mix. You graduate as an Ensign with a rating for whatever concentration you choose. Even if your main field is engineering, you still have to go through scout and shuttle training with a minimum level of Interceptor training. Any crew on a starship can fly anything in a pinch. Oh, they would never win a scrap with a trained opponent, but they could take the Interceptor, say with a wounded pilot, and get the hell out of Dodge. If you want to be an Interceptor pilot, then that training continues after the basic courses. And… since we're on the subject, when are you going to start your training, My Love?"
Her response was instantaneous. "Jeff, you know I don't have the time," she tried.
"Bullshit. You're well aware that time in the simulator doesn't correspond with Earth time. Just an hour of Earth time can sometimes translate into weeks in Ship's simulator."
"Jeff, you know I even throw a rock like a girl. I'm afraid I'll embarrass you if they put me in the cockpit of…"
"You shoot better than any but the very best. And if you would practice more, you would even be better, so don't give me that bullshit." Then the thought hit. "Say, I have an idea. We're worried about Selina going to the academy all alone…"
Diana's eyes got big as she began shaking her head. "No, Jeff. No. Absolutely not. No way am I going through Ship's academy with a genius by my side, and in addition to that, she has a photographic memory. I'll feel like a fool the first day. No, Jeff. It is not going to happen."...
Have a goodun;
