I had occasion this past week to attend the interment of a friend at Arlington National Cemetery. This was a man who served in the U.S. Navy for thirty-two years. He started as an enlisted man and worked his way up to a Lieutenant-Commander serving almost all of his time in submarines or submarine support assignments. He was entitled to and received full military honors at the interment including the caisson, military band, honor guard and twenty-one gun salute. It was both interesting and impressive. It will leave an impression with me for a very long time.
