There seems to be some discussion about my choice of the engine that wrecked the SNJ…I chose it because of the B-17 scrappers. The USGS wouldn't have hired a couple of kids if the Congress was involved. They would have had Destroyers, submarines and jeep carriers out on the lakes examining every nook and cranny. They could replace old wornout or at least ready for teardown and checking engines with new or nearly new pickled salvage engines faster than than the rebuild. With the old one off and in the Navy shop…peacetime conditions…1955/1956…just grab one from the barrel and stick it on. Well…they said they were getting low on dash 34's and a dash 97 was what they had….lots of them. Spend fifteen thousand for a NEW dash 34 when there were thousands of dash 97's?
