Once again I take to this space to thank Anonymous. If I could do it in person I would.
It's hard to explain what feedback means to us, and here I think I speak for all writers. We don't do this for money, we do it to release some inner tension. I tried to retire -- I've been a writer for 40 years -- and discovered that I simply could not do it.
So we struggle and strive -- and I do apologize for how long it takes me to get a chapter done sometimes. But darn it, you deserve the best I have to offer, and sometimes that just takes time.
I also credit my editor, who prods me ever-so-gently to do better, with quiet words like "I don't think this works" or "I'd do it this way, not that way." Thank you, JJ, from the bottom of my heart.
And thank you again, Anonymous.
