After years of waiting, and talk of the Unassigned Lands
becoming available to the public, the Land Run of 1889
With over two million acres of unsettled lands available,
there were thousands of eager, would be settlers on hand
for the official start at noon on the 21st day of April, 1889.
Those who claimed lands ahead of time, would come to be
known as Sooners. There were many Sooners there that day,
and among them were 'legal' Sooners. Men with the right to
be there in some official government capacity or other.
Many of the United States Marshals who had served for years
in Indian Territory, were among those 'legal' Sooners staking
claims on the new land.
Eli Crow was one of them.
With the Land Run over and claims of ownership officially filed,
work resumed on the first of many oil wells in that part of the
