Real Life Football in Paradise, Part 2

Lucy balances the football on her fingertip. Charlies Brown comes running. He plants his left foot and swings... just as Lucy yanks the football away. Charlie Brown falls flat on his back. He moans, "Good grief!"

Garden Spot High School (aka Eastern) held Manheim Central, the top rushing team in the Lancaster-Lebanon League, to 40 yards in the first half. The GS Spartans played the MC Barons tough through the beginning of the fourth quarter.

"Garden Spot's defense was really physical," the Barons Head Coach, Mike Williams, commented. "The hitting was pretty vicious. I don't think we saw a defense like that - including Cocalico's - all year."

The Spartans ran out of steam in the fourth quarter. The Barons scored ten unanswered points to win the game 34-17. It marked the Baron's five hundredth win. Garden Spot is still 0-Forever against the Barons.

In other action, Cocalico [Norlanco] decimated Gettysburg 43-8. Lancaster Catholic beat Lampeter-Strasburg 49-21.

Manheim Central will face Susquehanna Township next weekend. Cocalico will play against Lancaster Catholic. I fully expect to see Manheim Central playing Bishop McDevitt (LeSean McCoy's high school) for the district championship on November 29th. The Barons will need to beat Susquehanna Township and either Cocalico or Lancaster Catholic. I wish all the teams the best of luck.
